Turkey has deported to Kazakhstan a man who was on the international wanted list for alleged fraud via Instagram. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Polisia.kz.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, on June 19, the suspect was detained in the Turkish city of Samsun at the request of the National Central Bureau of Interpol in Kazakhstan. The organization of his extradition also involved a representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kazakhstan in Turkey and the Kazakh embassy.

The investigation believes that between September and December 2024, the suspect defrauded two residents of Atyrau via Instagram and took their money. The total damage exceeded 3 million tenge.

"The wanted suspect has been detained and placed in a temporary detention facility of the Police Department of Almaty," the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported.

Earlier, the man gained wide notoriety on social media after a high-profile story involving the murder of an entire family in the Atyrau region. A video circulated online in which he called himself a "hacker from Atyrau" and claimed to be conducting his own "investigation." In his posts, he displayed alleged geolocations, phone connections, and other data.

He also claimed on social media that he was outside Kazakhstan, including allegedly living in Dubai. He allegedly offered investments, IT training, help with account unlocking, money withdrawals, and even sold equipment. People transferred money to him but ultimately received nothing. Earlier reports indicated that the preliminary damage estimate exceeded 13 million tenge.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs noted that they continue efforts to locate and detain individuals hiding from criminal prosecution abroad.

Earlier, "Kursiv" reported how a fraudster from Astana convinced a businessman to give him 70 million tenge for a non-existent product. And the day before, a fraudster using an AI mask of Jackie Chan via video call persuaded a pensioner from Talgar to withdraw money.
