Two brothers died while swimming in the Syr Darya River in the Turkistan region. The search for the men lasted several days. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
Tragedy occurred on August 22
The incident occurred on August 22 on the territory of the Ushkayyk rural district of the Sauran district. The brothers, born in 1998 and 2002, were resting by the river and swimming in a prohibited area.
Circumstances of the incident
According to preliminary data, a 24-year-old man got into a strong current and began to drown. His 28-year-old brother rushed to help, but both failed to get out of the water.
Search operations
About 90 people were involved in the search: rescuers from the Turkistan region and Shymkent, police officers, medics, local residents, and relatives of the deceased. Specialists used swimming aids, drones, and other equipment.
Search results
The body of the younger brother was found on August 24 about six kilometers from the scene. The older man was found the next day significantly downstream.
"On August 25, during search operations, the body of a second man born in 1998 was found on the water surface about 30 kilometers from the scene. Thus, search operations on the Syr Darya River have been completed. Both men died," the Department of Emergency Situations of the Turkistan region reported.
Warning
The department urged residents and guests of the region to follow safety rules and not to swim in un-equipped and prohibited places.
