US President Donald Trump said that Ukraine should strive to conclude a deal to end the war, otherwise its position could significantly worsen. He said this at the White House, Clash Report reports. Against the backdrop of his statements, talks between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and the American delegation and European representatives took place in Norway. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
The American president said that Washington wants Zelensky to conclude a deal on settling the war. According to him, the US and Europe have spent huge sums on supporting Ukraine, and European countries are tired of the conflict.
"Ukraine must itself want to conclude a deal, because the United States has spent a fortune, Europe has also spent a fortune — and Europe is already tired of it," Trump said.
According to him, the US provided Kyiv with enormous assistance, but in return received nothing but high diesel fuel prices.
He also called for stopping the deaths of servicemen.
"Thousands of soldiers are dying every month. This is the craziest thing I have ever heard," Trump said.
He warned that the absence of agreements, in his opinion, would lead to a further deterioration of the situation.
"Zelensky must want to end this war, and if he does not want it, then, in my opinion, this will lead to very bad consequences," the US president said.
Trump also expressed doubt that Ukrainians would be ready to continue tolerating the continuation of hostilities. At the same time, he believes that a meeting of the presidents of Russia and Ukraine is not necessary for a settlement.
Speaking about the situation at the front, Trump said that Russian troops continue to advance. He called Russia's human resources inexhaustible and pointed to the difference in the size of the two countries.
"Russia is a huge country. Ukraine is not," the American president said.
According to him, Moscow wants the conflict to end. At the same time, Trump noted that Russian troops have occupied a significant territory and compared Russia to a huge machine that continues to move forward.
On October 20, Zelensky met in Norway with US President's special envoy Steve Witkoff and European representatives. Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre called the talks good and constructive.
Following the meeting, Zelensky said that the American side promised Ukraine strong security guarantees modeled on NATO Article 5. This article provides for the principle of collective defense: an attack on one member of the alliance is considered an attack on all.
The Ukrainian president also said that Kyiv is ready to refrain from strikes on sensitive Russian energy facilities if Moscow similarly stops attacks on Ukrainian facilities.
Zelensky advocated a transition to trilateral talks at the level of the leaders of Ukraine, the US and Russia. According to him, Kyiv has prepared concrete proposals for achieving peace and expects them to be conveyed to the Russian side.
"We will not lose this war, we are losing people and time," the Ukrainian president said.
He also said that the American ballistic missile launch warning system is working again and thanked Washington.
"As for the ballistic missile launch warning system. We are grateful to the Americans. It is working now. This is wonderful," Zelensky said.
According to Støre, on Wednesday, October 21, Witkoff will head to St. Petersburg to discuss with the Russian leadership the proposals developed at the meeting in Oslo.
