US President Donald Trump said he wants an agreement between Vladimir Zelensky and Vladimir Putin. According to him, the parties could reach an agreement before the onset of severe cold. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
"You know what I want from Zelensky? I want him to make a deal. I want him to agree with Putin, and Putin with him," Trump said on September 26 in a conversation with Fox News.
Trump also expressed hope that Putin and Zelensky would be able to reach an agreement in the near future, "possibly before the onset of severe cold."
"I hope that someday, possibly in the near future, or maybe even before the onset of severe winter, they will conclude an agreement," the US president said.
Earlier, the Kremlin said that a meeting between Putin and Zelensky without preliminary expert work would be inappropriate.
"So far there are no prerequisites for entering into peace negotiations. Although we, as the Russian side, remain open to peace negotiations," said Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov, according to RBC.
Peskov also recalled the proposal for Zelensky to come to Moscow. According to him, the Ukrainian president will be provided with security guarantees and he "knows perfectly well what decisions need to be made."
Thus, Trump's statement became a new signal about the possible resumption of negotiations to end the war between Ukraine and Russia. However, the official position of the Kremlin still indicates the absence of preparatory work for the meeting.
