US President Donald Trump expressed confidence that both sides in the Ukraine conflict are interested in reaching a peace agreement, RIA Novosti reported. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.

"I think they both want to make a deal," the American leader told reporters at the White House.

The US president said that trilateral negotiations on Ukraine will take place in the near future.

"It will happen soon," Trump told reporters on the White House grounds, speaking about trilateral negotiations on Ukraine.

However, Trump did not announce the exact timing of the negotiations.

Earlier, after a conversation with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, the Speaker of the House of Representatives stated that the US is "on the threshold" of trilateral negotiations on Ukraine.

Russian President Vladimir Putin also stated that Russia is ready to resume trilateral negotiations on settling the conflict in Ukraine. He said the goal of these negotiations would be to discuss security guarantees for Russia and Ukraine after reaching a final peace agreement. Putin stated that discussing this issue also includes reviewing the pan-European security architecture.
