US President Donald Trump has supported the candidacy of Jerusalem Patriarch Theophilos III as a mediator for resolving the conflict in Ukraine. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
According to Israeli news portal Ynet, Jerusalem Patriarch Theophilos III visited Washington on June 4. During the 40-minute meeting, they discussed access for Muslims and Christians to holy sites in the Holy Land and restrictions on performing religious rites.
Citing sources, the portal reported: "US President Donald Trump has agreed to Jerusalem Patriarch Theophilos III acting as a mediator in negotiations to achieve peace between Russia and Ukraine."
It was also mentioned that under this initiative, the patriarch may meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin in June. Theophilos III is recognized as an authoritative figure in the Orthodox world and has participated in diplomatic and humanitarian initiatives.
