US Secretary of State Marco Rubio believes President Donald Trump will need up to 60 days to assess the consequences of sanctions against Russia. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
"I think the president wants to use this 60-day period to analyze what the imposition of sanctions and tariffs would mean for the global economy, even for the US economy," Reuters quoted Rubio as saying.
Earlier, Trump signed an executive order instructing not to apply a number of sanctions, restrictions and tariffs provided for by the recently adopted law on sanctions against Russia and Iran.
The US president signed the law on the possibility of imposing new sanctions against Russia on September 19. The document allows him to introduce additional tariffs of up to 100% on goods from countries that are among the five largest buyers of Russian oil and gas, as well as additional tariffs of up to 500% on Russian goods imported into the US.
The exceptions provided for by Trump's new executive order do not affect previously imposed US sanctions against Russia.
