US President Donald Trump said that Russia and Ukraine have agreed to refrain from strikes on each other's energy facilities. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.

His statement came amid a sharp rise in diesel fuel prices in the United States, which has already become an additional problem for Republicans ahead of the midterm elections to Congress.

"Ukraine agreed not to strike Russian energy infrastructure. Russia also agreed not to carry out such strikes," Trump wrote on Truth Social.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed that Kyiv had advocated an agreement that should stop strikes on critical infrastructure.

"Food, energy and other elements of basic life support must be protected," Zelensky said on his official Telegram channel.

According to him, Russian strikes affect Ukrainian energy facilities, port infrastructure, logistics, as well as warehouses with food and pharmaceutical products.

At the same time, Zelensky said that Ukraine is not sure about Russia's readiness to comply with such an agreement.

"If the partners are ready to ensure Russia's real desire not to hit our electricity, our other energy facilities, critical infrastructure, the movement of food, then we, of course, are ready to ensure the corresponding absence of our strikes," he noted.

Shortly before Trump's statement, Fox Business reported on another energy-related problem. A record rise in diesel fuel prices has become a "new headache" for Republicans ahead of the midterm elections to Congress.

In September, the average price of a gallon of diesel in the US reached $6.069. In California, the figure rose to $7.983 per gallon. Over the month, fuel rose in price by 14%, and over the year the increase exceeded 60%.

Diesel is used in freight transportation, agriculture and other industries, so its rise in price can affect the cost of transportation and goods.

The rise in prices creates additional difficulties for the economic program of Republicans. Trump has repeatedly promised to reduce Americans' energy costs, but has previously allowed that high prices could persist after the elections.

Earlier, the US president proposed paying every adult citizen of the country $5 thousand if the Republican Party retains control of both the House of Representatives and the Senate at the same time.
