US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping spent three days at a summit in Washington discussing trade and other contentious issues in relations between the two countries. However, a US representative promises to reveal the details of the agreements on Monday, Reuters reports. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.

Final day of the meeting

On the final day of the meeting, the leaders drank tea at the White House. Trump spoke of progress in the talks and hinted that China would expand access for American agricultural products to its market. He did not name specific terms.

"I think our farmers will be pleased," the US president said.

Xi Jinping called relations with the US constructive and said they are developing on the basis of respect, fairness and reciprocity.

Statement from the US Trade Representative

US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer said the sides had agreed to remove some goods from trade disputes. He mentioned supplies of American agricultural products and medical equipment to China, as well as imports of consumer and other goods into the US. Greer promised to publish the details of the agreements reached on Monday.

Trump also spoke about expanding access for American farmers and livestock breeders to the Chinese market. Both leaders named artificial intelligence as a possible area of cooperation.

The Taiwan issue

Xi Jinping urged the US to approach the Taiwan issue cautiously. Beijing is also seeking an end to American arms supplies to the island. In December, the Trump administration approved an $11 billion arms package, but a decision on another package worth about $14 billion has so far been postponed.

At the US National Archives

After the tea, Trump showed Xi the US National Archives. There the leaders viewed the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. According to Xi, before the end of the year he and Trump may meet twice more — at the APEC summit in China and the G20 in Miami.

The Chinese leader, who arrived in the US on a state visit, and his wife Peng Liyuan were met at the ramp by President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump.
