US President Donald Trump said on Truth Social that he had agreed with Vladimir Putin on supplies of Russian diesel fuel to the United States and the global market. He called his conversation with the Russian president very successful. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
What volumes will be supplied
According to Trump, Russia will immediately supply more than 300,000 tonnes of diesel, another 500,000 tonnes in November, and then 1 million tonnes. An additional 3 million tonnes is planned to be shipped in a short time, but this delivery will depend on the condition of Russian oil refineries.
The American president expects that the agreements with Moscow, together with his stated US control over the Strait of Hormuz, will quickly reduce diesel prices in the US and other countries.
License term and limitations
The permit is valid until April 7, 2027. The license concerns specifically diesel fuel and does not mean a full lifting of sanctions against Russia.
The decision opens the possibility of additional supplies of Russian diesel to the market. Their economic meaning is to increase fuel supply and thereby ease pressure on prices. Diesel is used in freight transport, agriculture and industry, so its cost affects business expenses and the delivery of goods.
Political context
There is also a political context: Trump announced the agreement ahead of the November midterm elections to Congress, against the backdrop of high fuel prices in the US. The easing for Russian diesel shows that Washington is ready to make exceptions to sanctions restrictions in order to increase the supply of energy resources.
At the same time, the promised price reduction remains Trump's expectation. The actual effect will depend on the volumes and timing of supplies, the capabilities of Russian refineries and transportation costs.
Kremlin statement
The Kremlin said that following the conversation, Putin confirmed Russia's readiness to supply oil and petroleum products to the markets of the US and other countries. According to him, the appearance of Russian oil on the American market will have a positive effect on the global economy. The presidents also discussed the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine during the phone call.
Significance for Kazakhstan
For Kazakhstan, the US-Russia agreements may have indirect consequences: additional supplies of Russian diesel could ease pressure on global fuel prices. However, this does not guarantee it will become cheaper at Kazakh gas stations — the cost also depends on the operation of local refineries, exchange rates and delivery costs. With limited capacity at Russian refineries, large supplies to the US could increase competition for fuel that Kazakhstan also purchases.
