US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have reaffirmed their commitment to preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.

The talks took place on Tuesday in Washington and lasted about 90 minutes. The White House described the meeting as "positive and productive."

A senior Israeli delegation official characterized the negotiations as "extremely positive."

"The prime minister and the president had an excellent and thorough discussion of key agenda items, primarily the Iran issue," the source said.

According to him, Trump and Netanyahu reaffirmed their "iron commitment" that Iran would never acquire nuclear weapons.

Before departing for the US, Netanyahu said he intended to discuss security issues and the expansion of peace agreements in the region with Trump.

"We will discuss all agenda items, primarily Iran. Naturally, the goal is to ensure our security and also to expand the space of peace around us," the Israeli prime minister said.

The meeting was the first face-to-face conversation between the two leaders since the start of the full-scale US-Israeli military campaign against Iran.

In recent weeks, hostilities have paused amid Washington's diplomatic efforts. However, earlier disagreements arose between Trump and Netanyahu over further actions regarding Tehran.

In April, relations between the leaders deteriorated during ceasefire negotiations. Trump publicly criticized the Israeli prime minister and later called him a "very tough guy."

Netanyahu then stated that these were "tactical disagreements" and that the strategic goals of Israel and the US regarding Iran remained common.

The sides were also expected to discuss the implementation of US-backed agreements between Israel and Lebanon, as well as the situation in the Gaza Strip.

Nearly three years after the start of the Israel-Hamas war, the humanitarian situation in the enclave remains dire. Israel continues to strike the territory, and reconstruction efforts are progressing slowly.

This meeting between Trump and Netanyahu was the eighth since the US president returned to the White House in January 2025. It took place against the backdrop of preparations for elections in Israel and midterm elections in the US.

During his visit to Washington, Netanyahu also participated in events in memory of the late Senator Lindsey Graham.
