US President Donald Trump said the Strait of Hormuz could be fully reopened by Tuesday, August 4, 2026. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
According to him, restoring free navigation would be the first stage of a new deal with Iran, after which the parties would move to the second stage — discussing denuclearization of the Islamic Republic.
According to The Guardian, Trump stressed that the agreement on opening the strait should be finalized "literally tomorrow" (August 4). He called it the "last chance" for Tehran to sign a "good document."
"If anyone is going to collect fees, it will be us. We are the ones in full control," he said.
Trump also noted that mediators in the Middle East had asked the United States not to strike Iran.
According to CNN, official Tehran publicly denies holding direct negotiations with the US.
Meanwhile, Iran's Foreign Ministry reported diplomatic contacts with Oman to create a safe temporary route, emphasizing that full pre-war navigation would resume only after the cessation of US military actions in the region.
Analysts note that Trump regularly alternates harsh military threats (including strikes on Iranian infrastructure) with statements about an imminent diplomatic breakthrough.
Earlier, Kursiv reported that the US intends to ensure free navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, which Iran had previously declared closed.
