US President Donald Trump has announced his intention to remove American import tariffs on Irish whiskey. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
He made the statement during his visit to Ireland, speaking to the public at his own golf club in the village of Doonbeg, where the Irish Open golf championship was taking place at the time.
Trump noted that he was personally asked to take this step by Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin, as well as by golf tournament winner Shane Lowry. Amid approving cheers from the crowd, the politician promised to lift the restrictions on behalf of the United States.
Earlier, in the spring of 2026, the Trump administration had already removed similar tariffs on Scotch whisky — at that time the gesture was timed to coincide with the official visit of King Charles III of the United Kingdom to Washington.
