US President Donald Trump has rejected a plan proposed by Iran for a seven-day truce and the opening of the Strait of Hormuz. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
Trump's doubts
According to the publication, Trump doubts that Tehran will fulfill Washington's demands. The US president also told aides that he expects strikes on Iran to resume after the midterm congressional elections in November. This refers to an assessment of further developments, not an announced date for a new operation.
Iran's proposal
Iran proposed opening the Strait of Hormuz to shipping and returning to negotiations on its nuclear program. In exchange, Tehran is seeking the lifting of the US naval blockade of Iranian ports.
Earlier, Kursiv wrote that Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi presented a plan to restore shipping through the strait within seven days. Tehran's conditions also include a cessation of hostilities in the region, the unfreezing of Iranian assets and the removal of restrictions on oil exports.
"If the necessary conditions are met, the strait can be reopened and normal shipping can be restored within seven days," Araghchi said.
