US President Donald Trump said Iran is dragging out negotiations on a possible agreement with Washington for too long and must face consequences. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.

"We are going to attack them, attack them very hard," Trump told reporters at the White House, adding that new strikes could be launched in the near future.

The American leader's statements came amid a sharp escalation between the US and Iran after a series of mutual attacks in the Strait of Hormuz area.

Ibrahim Azizi, chairman of the Iranian parliament's national security committee, said a possible conflict would not be limited to the Middle East.

"The war will not be limited to this region," the Iranian politician warned.

In addition, Tehran announced its intention to revise diplomatic relations with the US, accusing Washington of repeatedly violating the ceasefire.

Amid threats of further escalation, oil prices rose nearly $3 per barrel, approaching $94.

According to Trump, a secret US military operation allowed tankers carrying about 100 million barrels of oil to pass through the Strait of Hormuz.

"Without these actions, oil prices would be much higher," the US president said.

The American leader also commented on data on rising inflation in the US.

According to official statistics, consumer prices rose more than 4% in May, the highest rate in three years.

Responding to reporters' questions about the possible political consequences of price increases ahead of the midterm elections, Trump said:

At the same time, the president expressed confidence that after the conflict with Iran ends, inflationary pressure will begin to decline.

Amid the escalation, a Qatari delegation arrived in Tehran, acting as a mediator between the US and Iran.

Meanwhile, the IAEA Board of Governors adopted a Washington-backed resolution calling on Iran to disclose data on its enriched uranium stockpiles and provide inspectors with access for verification.

Tehran called the document politically motivated and criticized it.
