US President Donald Trump has named the war with Iran as one of the reasons for the Republican Party's defeat in the midterm congressional elections. At the same time, he said he does not regret launching the military operation. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.

Trump spoke about this in a telephone interview with the WSJ.

Answering a question about whether the war had affected the voting results, the American leader admitted:

However, Trump still considers his decision to launch the military operation correct.

"I don't think about it. I did the right thing. I would do it again," he said.

According to Reuters, in the elections on November 3, Democrats gained control of both chambers of Congress — the House of Representatives and the Senate. During the election campaign, they linked the war to the rise in prices of gasoline and other goods in the United States.

In September, Trump predicted that the war would end immediately after the midterm elections. He claimed that Tehran was deliberately prolonging the conflict, counting on influencing the voting results.

On October 9, the American leader promised not to carry out new strikes on Iran before the elections. By that time, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll, 60% of Americans were dissatisfied with his actions regarding Iran. Among Republican supporters, one in four held this position.

Trump also warned that a Democratic victory could turn into an attempt to impeach him, and called on Republicans to vote more actively.

The US announced a large-scale military operation against Iran on February 28, 2026. At that time, Trump named its goals as protecting Americans and allies, destroying Iran's missile industry, and preventing Tehran from obtaining nuclear weapons.
