US President Donald Trump has stated his intention to personally present the World Cup trophy to the winners of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
"I think FIFA President Gianni Infantino has done a fantastic job. And yes, he asked me to hand over the cup," Trump told journalists during a meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte at the White House.
According to Aljazeera, Gianni Infantino officially confirmed this information on the American television channel Fox News. He said they would attend the final match together and go on stage to present the main trophy.
Earlier, it was reported that the decisive match of the tournament will take place on Sunday, July 19, 2026. The game will be held at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey (officially renamed New York New Jersey Stadium for the duration of the Mundial).
Trump has already participated in a similar ceremony in July 2025. At that time, at the same MetLife Stadium, he awarded London's Chelsea after their victory in the final of the revamped FIFA Club World Cup. That moment sparked controversy as Trump lingered on stage and actively took photos with celebrating players.
The 2026 World Cup itself, held for the first time in an expanded format with 48 teams across the United States, Mexico, and Canada, is currently in the midst of the group stage.
Earlier, Kursiv reported that Switzerland defeated Canada and advanced to the 2026 World Cup playoffs from first place.
And Bosnia and Herzegovina defeated Qatar but finished third in Group B at the 2026 World Cup.
