The U.S. Mint has started producing a new $1 coin featuring President Donald Trump's image. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Associated Press.

The coin, designed to celebrate America's 250th birthday, has Trump's face on one side and the Great Seal of the United States on the other. The coins go on sale Wednesday.

The coin's design was approved by the U.S. Commission of Fine Arts, whose members Trump appointed. The president previously called the idea of putting his face on a coin "very unusual" but said he was "honored by it."

Trump's second term has been marked by attempts to leave his stamp on history, including naming the Kennedy Center and the U.S. Institute for Peace after him, which have sparked lawsuits.

The coins can be used as legal tender, though federal law bars depicting a living president on U.S. currency. However, in some circumstances, the treasury secretary has authority to authorize special coins.

The coins were struck to "honor 250 years of great American heritage." Above Trump's face is written "LIBERTY," and below is "1776 ~ 2026." On the reverse is the Great Seal of the United States, with the bald eagle gripping arrows in one claw and an olive branch in the other. In a banner clutched in its beak is written "E PLURIBUS UNUM," Latin for "out of many, one."

A roll of 25 coins costs $61, and a bag of 100 costs $154.50. The U.S. Mint said they randomly hid some special-issue coins among the rolls and bags. Those will be marked "July 4th," because they were struck on that day, the anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.

Households are limited to only two orders, but that cap will lift at 2 p.m. Eastern time on Thursday.
