Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, during a briefing for the media in Germany, commented on his statement made in Omsk about the need to freeze the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
Responding to a question from German journalists, Tokayev once again stated that Kazakhstan will always adhere to the provisions of the UN Charter and advocates the start of diplomatic negotiations.
"....Of course, we are all concerned about what is happening in Ukraine. From the very beginning I said that Kazakhstan would adhere to the provisions of the Charter of the United Nations. We insist on respect for and preservation of the principle of the territorial integrity of all states. From the very beginning we said that we have great respect for the Ukrainian people, for their history, culture, traditions and, of course, for the Ukrainian language. I did not say that the war must be stopped immediately. I understand that this, probably, in current conditions would be unrealistic. I am talking about freezing military actions on the territory of Ukraine in order to move to a process of diplomatic or any other negotiations," said Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
Earlier, Kursiv wrote that Tokayev announced a powerful breakthrough in Kazakhstan's relations with Germany.
In addition, Kursiv wrote that Tokayev invited German Chancellor Friedrich Merz to visit the republic on a state visit.
Also, that Tokayev and German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier held talks in an expanded format. In 2025, trade turnover between the countries reached $4.5 billion, and the cumulative inflow of German investment into Kazakhstan over 20 years amounted to $8 billion. Following the meeting, the presidents adopted a joint declaration, and Steinmeier was awarded the Order of the "Altyn Qyran".
