Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev proposed developing a CIS development strategy through 2035. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
The concept for the development of the Commonwealth of Independent States was approved in 2007 and updated six years ago. According to Tokayev, the programs and documents adopted after that mainly concerned a specific sector, and therefore often do not align with each other.
"They all need to be combined and formed into an interconnected, unified system. What do we want the Commonwealth to be like in the future? What will its place be during a period of rapidly changing geopolitical architecture in Eurasia? The CIS member states need to find clear answers to these questions. Therefore, I propose that the Executive Committee, together with the governments of our countries, develop a CIS development strategy through 2035," Tokayev said at the CIS Council of Heads of State meeting.
According to the president, this is a medium-term perspective. First of all, attention should be paid to the most important priorities.
"They are: the economy, energy, infrastructure, advanced technologies and human capital. Such an approach will contribute to the coherence and consistency of our actions on the path to sustainable progress," Tokayev said.
What other initiatives did Tokayev propose?
