Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev congratulated well-known entrepreneur and philanthropist Timur Turlov on his election as president of the International Chess Federation (FIDE). This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
According to the Akorda statement: "Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev sent a congratulatory telegram to the president of the Kazakhstan Chess Federation, well-known entrepreneur and philanthropist Timur Turlov in connection with his election as president of the International Chess Federation (FIDE)."
The President wished the Kazakhstani who will lead the reputable global organization every success.
About Timur Turlov
It is worth noting that the 38-year-old entrepreneur founded the major investment holding Freedom Holding Corp. Since 2023 he has headed the Kazakhstan Chess Federation.
Former FIDE president
The previous FIDE president, Arkady Dvorkovich, had led the organization since 2018. However, after being added to the European Union's sanctions list, he withdrew his candidacy.
Thus, a representative of Kazakhstan will head the International Chess Federation.
