Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev received the President of the International Chess Federation (FIDE) Timur Turlov. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.

According to the Akorda statement, the president said this demonstrates the growing prestige of Kazakhstan and the national chess school on the world stage.

"In recent years, the Kazakh chess school has been developing intensively. More than 278,000 people in our country systematically engage in this sport," Tokayev noted.

Kassym-Jomart Tokayev particularly highlighted the bright achievement of the women's team, which won a silver medal at the World Chess Olympiad in Samarkand.

In addition, the president named the priority tasks facing the Kazakhstan Chess Federation.

"The head of state drew attention to the need to strengthen the preparation of the national team, create an effective system for identifying and training young talents, promote chess in the field of education, and develop chess infrastructure in the regions," the statement says.

Kassym-Jomart Tokayev emphasized the importance of improving the qualifications of domestic coaches and referees, implementing joint educational projects, and strengthening cooperation between the national federation and FIDE to hold major international chess competitions in Kazakhstan.

At the end of the meeting, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev wished Timur Turlov success in his responsible position.
