Kassym-Jomart Tokayev spoke at the 13th summit of the Organization of Turkic States and proposed admitting Russia to the organization as an observer. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.

The head of state noted that Kazakhstan attaches special importance to economic integration within the OTS. "Our country's trade turnover with the member states of the Organization has reached almost 10 billion dollars this year. Compared to last year, this figure has increased by 40 percent. To maintain this pace, we need to implement a number of measures. First of all, it is important to implement the 'Vision of the Turkic World – 2040' program with high quality. In this regard, it is necessary to promptly adopt the strategy of the Organization of Turkic States for 2027-2031," Tokayev said.

The President supported the measures outlined in the draft document concerning the development of trade, investment, finance, industry, agriculture, digital technology, education and science, and other areas. Tokayev emphasized the importance of using the "Organization of Turkic States +" format to strengthen cooperation.

"Russia, as a large state, has been closely connected with the Turkic world since ancient times. There are many Turkic peoples who have found their historical homeland in this country. Currently, Russia is promoting the concept of the 'Altai region – the golden cradle of Turkic civilization.' There are also many words of Turkic origin in the Russian language. In general, if Russia becomes part of the Turkic countries, that is, our Organization, it would benefit all of us," the head of state said.

During the summit, it was reported that Tokayev is participating in the 13th summit of the Organization of Turkic States. The meeting discussed further development of trade and economic ties between the member states of the organization, expansion of investment cooperation, and implementation of joint projects in the field of digital technology. The President's proposal envisages Russia's participation in the organization's activities as an observer, which in turn could contribute to strengthening historical and cultural ties between the Turkic world and Russia.

It should be noted that the 13th summit of the Organization of Turkic States is being held under Kazakhstan's chairmanship, where issues of deepening economic integration, implementing the 'Vision of the Turkic World – 2040' program, and developing a strategy for 2027-2031 are being considered. Tokayev's proposal to admit Russia as an observer may receive support from the member states of the organization, as this initiative opens the way to a new level of mutually beneficial cooperation.
