President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev expressed his opinion regarding the transition of current deputies to the Kurultai. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.

From July 1, the powers of the current parliament will be terminated. In August, elections for a unicameral parliament – the Kurultai – will be held.

"The upcoming elections must be open, honest and fair. Participation in elections means not staying away from state affairs. In this regard, I believe that our people will actively participate in the upcoming political campaign. The Kurultai is an important symbol of the new Kazakhstan. Therefore, its composition should include true patriots, proactive and state-minded individuals, that is, only the best. Because the people will evaluate the effectiveness of reforms precisely by the work of the Kurultai," Tokayev said at the last joint session of the parliament chambers.

At the same time, the president expressed confidence that some experienced deputies will move to the Kurultai. "I think a number of deputies will move to the Kurultai and work for the good of the country. The People's Council of Kazakhstan should also have the same qualified citizens as you," the head of state emphasized.
