Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev signed a decree "On approving the composition of Kazakhstan's People's Council." This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
According to information released by the Akorda, the council's composition includes 126 people.
Who is on the council
Among the council members are former Mazhilis deputies, public activists and representatives of ethnocultural associations. The full list can be viewed here.
Status and powers of the council
It is noted that Kazakhstan's People's Council combines the functions of the Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan and the National Kurultai.
The council is granted the authority to develop proposals on the main directions of domestic policy and to submit draft laws to the Kurultai. In addition, the council can initiate a nationwide referendum.
The council also establishes interaction between the state and civil society.
No salary is paid
Members of the People's Council are not paid a salary.
