By presidential decree, the First Deputy Minister of Defense – Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces has been appointed. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
The presidential decree was published on the official website of Akorda.
"By order of the Head of State, Aitkurman Zholamanuly Omarbekov was appointed First Deputy Minister of Defense of the Republic of Kazakhstan – Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and he was relieved of his previous position," the decree states.
Omarbekov previously served as Deputy Chief of the State Security Service – Commander of Special Purpose Forces.
Azamat Bakytzhanuly Khasenov replaced him.
Recall that earlier the president dismissed two vice-ministers of defense and the commander-in-chief of the Naval Forces of Kazakhstan.
