$3.5 billion will be allocated to modernize the Qarmet plant by 2028. President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said this at a meeting with the company's staff and trade union members. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
According to the head of state, Qarmet had previously been in a difficult situation, but the decisions taken made it possible to improve the enterprise's operations. "By optimizing costs and attracting investment, the company got rid of billions in losses and overcame a difficult period. As a result, last year Qarmet turned a net profit with revenue of 1.1 trillion tenge," Tokayev said.
The president noted that a large-scale modernization program has been launched at the enterprise. It is planned to invest $3.5 billion in its implementation by 2028.
Tokayev also touched on the company's social initiatives. According to him, Qarmet has fully restored tram service in Temirtau at its own expense. A program called "Bolashaqqa zhol" (Road to the Future) has also been launched for training and employing young specialists. In its first stage, about 500 people from all regions of the country will be covered.
The president recalled that he had declared the coming year the "Year of Large-Scale Nationwide Construction" and said that about 6.5 trillion tenge would be allocated to the "Khalyqtyq qurylys" (People's Construction) project. "Khalyqtyq qurylys" will cover the entire country, all cities and districts. "In essence, we are laying a reliable foundation for a prosperous future," said Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
