Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev reviewed the operations of Qarmet's converter shop, which is considered the main link in steelmaking production, the Akorda press service reported. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.

The President was shown how pig iron smelted in the blast furnace is converted into steel and then sent to the continuous casting unit and further to rolling.

"In 2024, Qarmet carried out major repairs at converters No. 1 and No. 2, completely replacing the casings and installing more modern structures," the statement said.

The modernization will expand the range of products, increase the volume of steel smelted and improve equipment reliability. In addition, the shop continues to convert a number of technological processes to natural gas.

Qarmet Board Chairman Andrey Lavrentyev reported to the head of state on the growth of production indicators and the implementation of investment programs.

"By the end of 2026, it is planned to produce 4 million tonnes of steel, 3.6 million tonnes of coal and 3.9 million tonnes of iron ore concentrate," Akorda noted.

The volume of investments since the company began operations has exceeded $2.7 billion. These funds were directed toward modernizing production capacity and building new industrial facilities.

Qarmet is the country's largest mining and metallurgical company with a full production cycle. It is an integrated mining and metallurgical complex with its own coal and iron ore mines and an energy base in Central Asia. The company employs about 35,000 people, including more than 14,000 at the metallurgical plant in Temirtau.
