In Bishkek, on the sidelines of the SCO summit, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev met with President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
The interlocutors noted the dynamic nature of the multifaceted cooperation between Kazakhstan and Russia, which is progressively developing in the spirit of friendship, good neighborliness, and alliance.
Putin congratulated the head of our state on the successful holding of elections to the Kurultai, noting that their results confirmed broad support for Tokayev's strategic course for the further development of Kazakhstan, strengthening domestic political stability, developing the economy, and solving a wide range of issues related to improving people's living standards.
Tokayev spoke in more detail about the work being carried out within the framework of the constitutional reform.
"The process of modernization of Kazakhstan will continue in accordance with national interests. Reforms for the sake of reforms should never be carried out, we understand this well. First of all, we must proceed from the interests of our citizens. As for bilateral cooperation, I believe that your state visit to Astana in May this year was a complete success. In its nature and essence, it became historic. Now the government is engaged in the implementation of all agreements that were signed. You correctly noted that trade is developing at an accelerated pace. There is growth compared to last year. I believe that Russia will remain our main investment and trade partner. I fully support this process," Tokayev noted.
In turn, Putin highly appreciated the dynamic development of bilateral relations in almost all areas.
"Last year we had good trade turnover figures, and this year it has grown even more. We are working on a wide range of issues. Our agenda includes both large projects and current issues. The intergovernmental commission is working actively, we should thank our colleagues for this activity, for fulfilling all our agreements with you. The development of contacts in the humanitarian sphere is especially pleasing. 60 thousand students from Kazakhstan are studying in Russian universities. A branch of a leading Kazakh higher education institution was recently opened in Omsk. We have a two-way road on almost all issues. There is an opportunity today to talk about this whole complex," said the President of Russia.
The heads of state discussed prospects for strengthening trade, economic, and investment cooperation, as well as the implementation of joint projects in areas of mutual interest.
Earlier, Kursiv wrote that President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev took part in the official opening ceremony of the 6th World Nomad Games in Bishkek. The Games are held in Kyrgyzstan from August 31 to September 6, with about 3,000 athletes from more than 100 countries participating.
