President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Prime Minister of Cambodia Hun Manet held talks in a narrow format. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.

The head of state expressed respect for the distinguished guest and said the visit would give a new impetus to bilateral relations and open prospects for developing mutually beneficial cooperation.

Tokayev: the visit is of great historic significance

"I believe the historic significance of your visit is great. Because before this, Cambodian prime ministers had not visited Kazakhstan. And you have a personal connection with Kazakh land. Today we will discuss large-scale issues of bilateral relations. The people of Kazakhstan have a special affinity for your country. Many of our compatriots want to go to Cambodia and see its sights. We need to work out the issue of opening direct air service between our countries. We should also revitalize contacts in the humanitarian sphere," Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said.

The president noted that Kazakhstan and Cambodia are among countries rich in natural resources and that interaction in this area could be expanded. He also said that the talks would address strengthening trade and economic ties.

Hun Manet: there is an opportunity to deepen energy cooperation

For his part, the Cambodian prime minister thanked Kassym-Jomart Tokayev for the invitation to Kazakhstan and noted that diplomatic relations between the two countries were established more than 30 years ago.

"I think today an opportunity is emerging to deepen cooperation in the energy sector. We can instruct our agencies to identify areas of mutual interest. Kazakhstan has achieved significant success in e-government and has advanced solutions. Our ministries are interested in exchanging experience in this area," Hun Manet said.

During the meeting, the parties thoroughly discussed further expansion of political dialogue, trade and economic ties and cooperation on multilateral platforms.
