Kazakhstan and Ethiopia will study the possibility of creating a hub for supplies of Ethiopian tea, coffee and flowers. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
This was agreed by Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, Akorda reported.
Exchange of delegations planned
The parties intend to send delegations for mutual familiarization with the trade, economic and investment potential of the two countries. The meeting also discussed expanding political dialogue and intensifying business cooperation.
Tokayev: Kazakhstan is interested in strengthening relations with Ethiopia
Tokayev said Kazakhstan is interested in strengthening relations with Ethiopia and other African countries. He recalled that the Kazakh embassy in Addis Ababa became one of the republic's first permanent diplomatic missions on the continent. Kazakhstan also has observer status at the African Union.
"I would like to emphasize our unchanging interest in your country, as well as our desire to develop and strengthen relations with Ethiopia," the President of Kazakhstan said.
According to him, the potential for increasing mutual trade allows intensifying partnership between the business circles of the two countries.
Abiy Ahmed will consider opening an embassy in Kazakhstan
Abiy Ahmed congratulated Tokayev on holding elections to the Kurultai of Kazakhstan and noted the high level of mutual understanding between the states. He said Ethiopia would consider the possibility of opening an embassy in Kazakhstan.
"I am sure this will contribute to strengthening and expanding our relations," the Prime Minister said.
At the end of the meeting, Tokayev invited Abiy Ahmed to visit Kazakhstan on an official visit.
Tokayev's upcoming visit to Seoul
Earlier, Kursiv wrote that after the two-day BRICS summit in India, Tokayev will go on a state visit to Seoul. From September 14 to 16, he will hold talks with South Korean President Lee Jae-myung and take part in the first Central Asia — South Korea summit at the level of heads of state. Following the meeting, it is planned to adopt the Seoul Declaration on long-term cooperation in energy, AI and digitalization.
