Sultan of Oman Haitham bin Tariq Al Said has completed his state visit to Kazakhstan. At the capital's airport he was seen off by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
According to the Akorda press service, the Sultan of Oman arrived in Kazakhstan on a state visit on October 5. During talks in Astana, Tokayev and Haitham bin Tariq Al Said discussed investment projects and cooperation in energy, logistics, agriculture, IT, pharmaceuticals and tourism.
Joint projects
Among the joint projects are the development of the Dunga field and Solidcore projects.
Samruk-Kazyna and the Oman Investment Authority exchanged an agreement on establishing a joint venture and the terms for implementing the Blue City project in Oman. QazaqGaz and OQ Exploration and Production agreed on cooperation in the oil and gas sector. The sides also signed documents on financial partnership and the creation of a Kazakh-Omani Business Council.
Meeting at the AIFC
The leaders of the two countries also visited the Astana International Financial Centre, where they discussed opportunities for investment cooperation and the development of Islamic finance. AIFC Governor Renat Bekturov said that since its launch the centre has attracted more than $28 billion in investment to Kazakhstan. It has registered over 6,600 companies from 90 countries.
Business forum and awards
The day before, a Kazakh-Omani business forum was held, at which Tokayev stated Kazakhstan's readiness to become a long-term partner of the Gulf countries in ensuring food security.
Tokayev presented the Sultan with Kazakhstan's highest state award — the Order of Altyn Qyran. In response, the president received the Royal Order of Al Said. The Omani leader invited him to pay a return visit to Muscat.
