President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev raised the issue of digital transformation of the industrial sector at the third meeting of the Council on Artificial Intelligence Development. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
The head of state noted that artificial intelligence has become one of the main factors determining competitiveness in the new digital era.
"The main task is to increase labor productivity, accelerate technological modernization and expand the production of high value-added products. In carrying out this work, artificial intelligence must become one of the main tools," the president said.
Kassym-Jomart Tokayev noted that digitalization efforts at enterprises are often limited to automating individual operations. In his opinion, production processes need to be reviewed as a whole.
"We need comprehensive transformation of production processes using artificial intelligence. Currently, at many enterprises, digitalization is carried out in a fragmented manner. Despite the fact that we have automated individual operations and introduced new services, the production model in many cases remains unchanged. Enterprises must review the entire production chain and determine where efficiency can be maximized with the help of AI," said Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
The president instructed the government, together with the Samruk-Kazyna fund, to identify enterprises whose core business processes will undergo comprehensive transformation through artificial intelligence.
In addition, the head of state said it is necessary to create a unified mechanism for identifying and solving pressing tasks related to artificial intelligence in industry. It should cover stages from team selection to testing the result and evaluating economic efficiency.
Tokayev also touched on the importance of quality production data for the effective use of artificial intelligence. According to him, enterprises have a large volume of production data, but its quality is uneven and fragmented.
"We need industry-specific production data that meets a unified quality standard, is interconnected and safe to use. Domestic researchers and software developers must have unimpeded access to it. Of course, commercial secrets, strategic information and especially important data will be reliably protected," the president said.
The head of state instructed the government, together with the business community, to develop common approaches to forming an industry-specific production data base.
Tokayev also noted that Kazakhstan has laid a solid foundation for the development of artificial intelligence, and the task now is to turn this potential into economic benefit.
"Artificial intelligence must become a tool for developing the country's industry. This work needs to be strengthened in sectors of strategic importance," the president said.
Kassym-Jomart Tokayev proposed discussing the issue of introducing artificial intelligence in the transport and logistics sector at the next meeting of the council.
