Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev sent a telegram of condolences to King Haakon VIII of Norway over the death of his father, King Harald V. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
In the telegram, the head of state noted Harald V's significant contribution to the country's development and emphasized his role in strengthening national unity.
"King Harald V was an outstanding statesman who embodied the unity, resilience and impressive achievements of Norway. Throughout his long and glorious reign, His Majesty served the country with dignity and wisdom, constantly caring for the well-being of the people and earning their deep respect and sincere love," the telegram reads.
Harald V died on August 28 at a hospital in Oslo at the age of 89. He had been on the throne for 35 years. During this time, he made the Norwegian monarchy more modern and open.
For many Norwegians, Harald was "their" king. He supported the country's sports teams, was involved in sailing and represented Norway at the Olympic Games three times.
After his death, his son Haakon VIII became King of Norway. Harald V is survived by his wife, Queen Sonja, daughter Märtha Louise, son Haakon and six grandchildren.
