Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said that servicemen guilty in the Caspian tragedy will be held accountable and severely punished by law regardless of their position or rank. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
The President said that servicemen who took part in the training exercise were not provided with the necessary equipment, including special rescue vests.
Task of the government commission
According to Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, the government commission must assess the actions of all officials responsible for preparing and conducting the training exercise, providing the army with the necessary equipment and ensuring compliance with safety requirements.
In addition, on the President's instruction, a comprehensive inspection of the state of affairs at the Ministry of Defence has begun.

Course of the inspection
The inspection will comprehensively examine the organisation of military service, the supply of the army, as well as its material and financial provision.
The commission headed by Deputy Chair of the Security Council Aida Balayeva must identify violations of a systemic nature and determine who will be held accountable.

"This incident clearly showed that there are too many gaps in the army and a lack of professionalism. The time has come to implement a radical reform of the army. In this regard, I have made personnel decisions. Responsibility is very high, and the tasks ahead are extremely difficult. Bold decisions must be made," the head of state said.
