President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev congratulated Louise Arbour on her official assumption of the office of Governor General of Canada. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
According to the press service of Akorda, in his telegram the head of state wished her success in her new post and wished the people of Canada well-being and prosperity.
"Kazakhstan is committed to further strengthening the multifaceted partnership with Canada and is ready for close interaction in the interests of the peoples of our countries," the congratulatory message reads.
Tokayev also expressed confidence in the further development of cooperation between Kazakhstan and Canada.
Louise Arbour is a prominent Canadian lawyer and human rights activist, former judge of the Supreme Court of Canada. She became the 31st Governor General of the country after an official ceremony in Ottawa, where she was confirmed as the representative of the head of state and commander-in-chief of the armed forces. The position is largely ceremonial but includes some constitutional functions.
As reported by CBC, in her first speech Arbour spoke about the importance of unity, support for youth, the country's development amid technological changes and risks of artificial intelligence. She also noted that Canada remains a "near-perfect" mature democracy.
