President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev received the president and head of strategy and planning at Hyundai Motor Group, Sung Kim. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
During the meeting, the expansion of investment and industrial-technological cooperation, as well as the prospects for implementing new large-scale projects in Kazakhstan, were discussed.
Kassym-Jomart Tokayev noted Hyundai Motor Group's significant contribution to the development of Kazakhstan's automotive industry and emphasized the importance of further deepening production localization, increasing the output of auto components, and strengthening export potential.
In this regard, the Hyundai plant in Almaty and the Kia plant in Kostanay play a special role.
"In this context, the President noted that promising tasks have been identified — turning Kazakhstan into a major regional center for automobile production and export, and focusing on developing a full production cycle. The head of state drew attention to another important area of partnership — the electric transport sector, namely the production of electric vehicles, their components, and the creation of charging infrastructure," the statement reads.
Sung Kim thanked Kassym-Jomart Tokayev for his continued support of Hyundai and Kia projects.
The head of Hyundai Motor Group conveyed that for the company, Kazakhstan is not only a market but also an important regional center for CIS countries.
In addition, the management of Hyundai Engineering expressed readiness to develop cooperation in the oil and gas, industrial, and infrastructure sectors.
Representatives of Kia, in turn, announced their intention to contribute to the formation of Kazakhstan's national automobile brand.
