Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev signed the law "On Ratification of the European Convention on Mutual Assistance in Criminal Matters". This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
According to the Akorda statement: "The Head of State signed the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan 'On Ratification of the European Convention on Mutual Assistance in Criminal Matters'."
Significance of the document
Joining the document will allow Kazakhstan to obtain evidence from abroad in criminal cases and return illegally withdrawn assets. The mechanism will also facilitate the investigation of transnational crimes.
Earlier, the President signed an amnesty law in connection with the adoption of the new Constitution.
