President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has said he proposed at the UN to establish an International Greening Day based on Kazakhstan's Taza Qazaqstan campaign. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
According to him, the initiative was supported by almost all members of the UN General Assembly. The head of state made the statement while addressing participants of an environmental campaign, Akorda reported.
Thanks to volunteers
Tokayev thanked young people for their participation in volunteer activities. He recalled that 2020 was the Year of the Volunteer in Kazakhstan, and that the country later proposed at the UN to establish an International Year of Volunteers. According to the president, that initiative was also supported by a majority of states.
"I have always supported volunteers, including when I worked at the UN," Tokayev said. He added that volunteer activity has been enshrined in Kazakhstan's Constitution.
Call for responsibility
Speaking about citizens' participation in the life of the country, the president urged young people to act responsibly and to consider the consequences of their words and actions.
"Sometimes thoughtless words can cause far greater damage than certain actions. This must never be forgotten," he said.
Tokayev also stressed that he considers the work of building a just, safe, advanced and clean Kazakhstan to be a common task for citizens. At the end of his speech, he thanked the volunteers and wished them success.
Earlier, Kursiv wrote that Tokayev planted trees in the Presidential Park together with young people and eco-activists. The president also proposed developing a national standard of cleanliness.
