President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev discussed expanding technological partnership, trade and investment ties with Bavaria's leadership. He held meetings with Prime Minister Markus Söder, Landtag President Ilse Aigner and Deputy Prime Minister — Minister of Economic Affairs, Regional Development and Energy Hubert Aiwanger. Meeting with Söder
At the meeting with Söder, Tokayev thanked him for his hospitality and the invitation to visit Bavaria. The President noted the region's economic power and innovative potential, calling it an important partner in implementing the agreements reached the day before in Berlin.
"Yesterday I held very substantive talks with Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz. I am firmly determined to translate our agreements into concrete results and I regard Bavaria as a key partner in this matter," Tokayev said.
According to him, Bavaria combines advanced achievements of industry and science with respect for traditions. The President called the region one of the main locomotives of Germany's economy and a reliable partner of Kazakhstan in modernizing and diversifying the economy.
Tokayev also noted the opportunities for combining Bavaria's technologies with Kazakhstan's resources and industrial potential. He separately emphasized the importance of strengthening transport links to bring the economies and people of the two countries closer together.
Söder said Bavaria is looking for new growth points and is interested in cooperation with Kazakhstan in various areas. He thanked the president for supporting Bavarian companies, which are widely represented in the country. In conclusion, Tokayev said he would be glad to receive the Bavarian prime minister in Kazakhstan.
Meeting with Aigner
At the meeting with Aigner, the president positively assessed the results of the talks with Germany's top leadership in Berlin and Bavaria's contribution to the development of bilateral relations.
"Bavaria plays an extremely important role in promoting trade and developing ties with Kazakhstan. For us, Germany is a special partner," Tokayev said.
He called Germany a strategic partner of Kazakhstan in Europe and beyond, noting the country's international influence and its position as the world's third economy.
The parties discussed inter-parliamentary interaction and strengthening cultural and humanitarian ties. Aigner thanked Tokayev for visiting the Landtag, noting the busy program of the visit. According to her, Bavaria is studying opportunities to expand trade, economic, transport and investment contacts with Kazakhstan. The meeting participants confirmed their interest in further dialogue.
Meeting with Aiwanger
During the conversation with Aiwanger, Tokayev thanked him for the reception and assistance in holding the technology forum in Munich. The interlocutors considered the development of direct business contacts and technological partnership between Kazakh and Bavarian companies.
At the meeting, Bavaria was called one of Kazakhstan's key economic partners among the German states. The president noted the potential for growth in mutual trade, attracting investment and implementing joint projects.
Aiwanger reported high interest from Bavarian business in cooperation. According to him, the complementarity of the economies of Kazakhstan and Germany opens up opportunities for Bavarian companies.
The parties paid special attention to high technologies, industry, energy, innovation and regional development. They confirmed their readiness to develop cooperation in these areas.
Visit to Germany
During his visit to Germany, Tokayev announced new strategic agreements and invited Chancellor Friedrich Merz to visit Kazakhstan on a state visit in 2027.
Following the talks with German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, the parties adopted a joint declaration. Trade between the two countries reached $4.5 billion in 2025, and the inflow of German investment into Kazakhstan over 20 years amounted to $8 billion. Steinmeier was awarded the Order of the "Altyn Qyran".
