In Almaty, 165 old tram supports will be dismantled on Tole Bi Street to build the first light rail transit (LRT) line. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
According to the Traffic Management Center (TMC), work will take place on the section from Momyshuly Street to Zharokov Street. There, the supports of the contact network of the former tram line will be dismantled, and new decorative lighting poles will be installed in their place.
Currently, the old supports carry power lines, communication cables, internet provider lines, advertising, and other utility networks. Some of their owners have not yet relocated the equipment, and some could not be identified.
"To prevent damage to utility networks, the TMC again appeals to all owners and operating organizations to dismantle or rearrange their networks by July 24, 2026, inclusive," the center said.
Construction and installation work and demolition of old supports will begin on July 25, 2026.
Meanwhile, work continues on Tole Bi Street to build the light rail line. Motorists and buses have been left with one and a half lanes, while workers occupy the central part of the road.
Recall that the length of the first stage of the LRT will be about 18 km, with 34 platforms along the line. On the section from Abylai Khan Avenue to Almaty-2 station, trains will operate in autonomous mode. The depot will be located in the industrial zone of the Alatau district.
Earlier, Kursiv LifeStyle reported that the deadline for the first LRT line had been pushed forward by almost two years. It is promised to be launched by the end of 2027.
