President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev sent a telegram of condolences to Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
He expressed sympathy over the tragic consequences of the natural disaster that struck Japan's Kumamoto Prefecture.
"Kassym-Jomart Tokayev conveyed words of sympathy to the families and friends of the victims and wished a speedy recovery to all those affected," the Akorda press service reported.
Recall that a powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 7.1 occurred on the southern Japanese island of Kyushu in the Kumamoto Prefecture area. The epicenter lay at a depth of 10 kilometers, and the force of the tremors reached the maximum level of 7 on the Japanese seismic intensity scale.
According to rescue services, more than 30 people were killed, and over 100 residents sustained injuries of varying severity. More than 10,000 people were forced to leave their homes and move to temporary accommodation centers.
The most serious incident occurred at the largest shopping center in the prefecture, where an explosion occurred after the earthquake, presumably due to a gas leak. The building partially collapsed.
