President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev met with Secretary General of the World Customs Organization (WCO) Ian Saunders. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
According to the Akorda press service, the parties discussed the development of customs administration, digitalization of procedures, and strengthening the transport and logistics potential of Central Asia.
Tokayev emphasized that Kazakhstan continues to strengthen transport links in Eurasia and create more convenient conditions for cargo transit.
One of the key areas in this work remains the development of the 'smart border' model. To this end, Kazakhstan is implementing digital solutions that optimize and accelerate customs procedures.
Ian Saunders highly appreciated Kazakhstan's progress in this area. He noted the introduction of modern digital technologies, improvement of customs administration, and strengthening the institutional capacity of relevant bodies.
The parties confirmed their intention to continue cooperation, which has been developing between Kazakhstan and the World Customs Organization for more than 30 years.
In addition, Tokayev and Saunders exchanged views on new trends and challenges in global trade. They separately discussed opportunities for expanding trade and economic ties and further developing the transport and logistics potential of Central Asia.
Earlier, Kursiv reported that Kazakhstan's trade turnover with SPECA countries exceeded $8.7 billion by the end of 2025.
