President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev held talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping. The meeting took place in Shanghai, where the head of state arrived to participate in the World Conference on Artificial Intelligence. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
Tokayev thanked the Chinese leader for the invitation to the forum and congratulated him on the 105th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China. The President noted China's authority on the world stage and stated that Kazakhstan is interested in further strengthening the eternal comprehensive strategic partnership with China.
"Kazakhstan is consistently interested in comprehensively strengthening the eternal and strategic partnership with China. In recent years, political dialogue between our states has significantly intensified," Tokayev said.
The President emphasized that China remains Kazakhstan's largest trading partner. According to him, Chinese investment in the country's economy has reached $30 billion, trade turnover last year amounted to $49 billion, and more than 8,500 companies with Chinese capital operate in Kazakhstan.
According to the head of state, the countries are implementing joint projects in industry, energy, gas chemistry, mechanical engineering, and agriculture.
Humanitarian ties are also strengthening: in 2025, more than one million Chinese citizens visited Kazakhstan, cultural centers opened in the capitals of both states, and Lu Ban workshops operate in Kazakhstan.
Special attention was paid to interaction on the international stage. Kazakhstan and China coordinate positions on sustainable development and security issues, and actively cooperate within the UN, SCO, CICA, and the "Central Asia – China" format.
Xi Jinping stated that relations between the two countries have reached a high level but have significant potential for further development.
"Through joint efforts, the relations of eternal comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Kazakhstan have reached a high level. At the same time, there is significant potential for their development," the Chinese President noted.
In addition, the Chinese leader highly appreciated the reforms being carried out in Kazakhstan, congratulated Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on the adoption of the new Constitution, and wished him success in the upcoming elections to the Kurultai.
On the eve of the World Conference on Artificial Intelligence in Shanghai, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev met with leaders of the Chinese tech sector and invited them to build a Data Center Valley in Ekibastuz. The President of Kazakhstan also proposed to Chinese partners to create a space where goods would cross the border as quickly as data is transmitted via the internet.
Earlier, Kursiv reported that Tokayev announced the beginning of a new "golden thirty years" with China.
