President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev expressed condolences to the family and close ones of Khalyk Kaharmany Ivan Gapich over his passing, the Akorda press service reported on August 4. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.

In his telegram, the head of state noted that Ivan Gapich volunteered for the front and served as a signalman throughout the war. After returning, he worked for many years in the prosecutor's office.

"A man of high moral principles, a professional in his field, he enjoyed well-deserved authority and respect among colleagues and in society. Ivan Stepanovich's life path became a worthy example of constructive patriotism, loyalty to duty and oath, and firm commitment to the ideals of justice. The bright memory of Ivan Stepanovich will forever remain in our hearts," the telegram reads.

Ivan Gapich participated in the liberation of Poland, Czechoslovakia, and Ukraine. In the post-war years, he served in the prosecutor's office in several regions of Kazakhstan. In 2023, he was awarded the title of Khalyk Kaharmany.

Earlier, Kursiv reported that Kassym-Jomart Tokayev sent a telegram of condolences to Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi regarding the consequences of the earthquake in Kumamoto Prefecture. According to rescue services, more than 30 people died, over 100 were injured, and more than 10,000 residents left their homes.
