A 66-year-old resident of Turkistan region, during a congratulatory speech at a wedding, called music haram and compared singers to Satan's muezzins. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs identified the man who made a public statement with signs of inciting religious and social discord. Police opened a criminal case on this fact.
In a police statement: "The Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan ensures equality of rights and freedoms of every citizen regardless of gender, origin, social status, attitude to religion and other circumstances. Any public appeals aimed at humiliating a person's honor and dignity, discrimination on religious, social or other grounds, as well as actions that may damage public harmony and unity are not allowed."
Earlier, after the man's "sermon" at the wedding, the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Kazakhstan made a statement. According to the muftiate, Islam calls for wise preaching, not condemning others with harsh words, and respecting everyone's honor.
