In Turkistan region, a man was detained for calling music haram and singers 'Satan's muezzins' in a congratulatory speech at a wedding. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, a criminal case was opened against the 66-year-old resident on charges of inciting religious and social discord. Police reported that the suspect was detained and placed in a temporary detention facility.
The Ministry recalled that the Constitution of Kazakhstan establishes the country as a secular, legal and social state, and that the person, his rights and freedoms are the highest values. Law enforcement officers noted that everyone is equal before the law and the court, and any discrimination based on gender, attitude to religion and other circumstances is prohibited.
Furthermore, freedom of speech must not infringe on the honor and dignity of other people, and propaganda of religious and social discord is not allowed. The Ministry warned that any public statements that degrade human dignity, discriminate against women, incite religious or social discord, or are aimed at disrupting public harmony will be given a legal assessment in accordance with the law.
