A member of Kazakhstan's national team, Torekhan Sabyrkhan, has become the champion of the XX Summer Asian Games taking place in the Japanese city of Aichi–Nagoya. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.

The Kazakh boxer competed in the up to 70 kg weight category. In the final bout, Torekhan Sabyrkhan faced Jordan's representative Z. Ishah and secured a confident victory with a 5:0 score by unanimous decision of the judges.

"This is Kazakhstan's first gold medal in boxing at the Asian Games in the last 12 years. Previously, Kazakh boxers became champions at the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon. At the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta and the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, the Kazakhstan team could not win gold medals in boxing," the ministry said.

It is worth noting that Torekhan Sabyrkhan came to this year's Asian Games as one of the leaders of the national team. In 2025, he became the winner of the first World Boxing adult world championship held in Liverpool. At that tournament, the Kazakhstan team won 7 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze medals, taking first place in the overall team medal standings.
