A statement supporting practical steps to prevent an arms race in outer space was adopted at a meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the CIS in Avaza, Turkmenistan. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.

Plan of consultations for 2027 approved
A Plan of multi-level inter-MFA consultations within the CIS for 2027 was also approved.
According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, representatives of Russia, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan also approved a package of decisions aimed at deepening integration ties in the cultural, humanitarian and law enforcement spheres, as well as in the field of security.
Concern over an arms race in space
The participants in the agreement expressed serious concern that space could turn into an arena of military confrontation. They emphasized the need for a complete ban on the placement of any weapons in space, as well as a ban on the use of force (or the threat of its use) both against space objects and with their use.
The statement records that space systems and ground infrastructure must not be used for purposes contrary to the maintenance of international peace and security.
