Kazakh entrepreneur Timur Turlov has been elected president of the International Chess Federation (FIDE) at the organization's General Assembly held in Samarkand. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
The 38-year-old entrepreneur founded the major investment holding Freedom Holding Corp. He has headed the Kazakhstan Chess Federation since 2023.
FIDE's previous president, Arkady Dvorkovich, had led the organization since 2018. However, after being added to the European Union's sanctions list, he withdrew his candidacy.
